However, divine intervention, or something like it, foils Vanaja’s evil plans. A mysterious woman appears twice, first washing away the salt with water and then clearing the path of the broken glass, all without Parvati’s knowledge. Vanaja is left seething and confused by this unexpected obstacle.
The mysterious helper is revealed to be none other than Uma. In a dramatic confrontation with Vanaja, Uma declares that she is atoning for her past sins and has had a change of heart.
